Screening Program

The Basalt Lions Club’s involvement in providing grants to the Colorado Lions Club KidSight program demonstrates their commitment to supporting children’s eye health. This initiative is crucial as it focuses on screening young individuals for potential eye issues, allowing for early detection and intervention.

With 7-15% of the screened children requiring a follow-up examination by an eye care professional, it’s evident that a substantial portion of kids could have undiagnosed eye conditions that need further attention. The fact that approximately 5% of children within this age group are at risk of amblyopia emphasizes the importance of early identification and treatment to prevent potentially permanent vision impairment.

The screening devices used in the KidSight program play a pivotal role in identifying various risk factors for amblyopia. Strabismus, which involves misalignment of the eyes, refractive errors, and differences in vision between the two eyes. 

Any Lion or trained volunteer can assist with the vision screening of a child. With the push of a few buttons and the KidSight screening devices used will do all the work for you. Screening devices even generate the results immediately for easy management of screenings results. It’s simple, it’s fun, and there’s nothing more rewarding than helping a child.

By collaborating with the Colorado Lions Club KidSight program, the Basalt Lions Club is actively contributing to the well-being of children by ensuring that potential eye problems are caught early.
